CNEWS - Space: Scientists: Methane rain, river beds on Titan
CNEWS - Space: Scientists: Methane rain, river beds on Titan
A probe to Titan has found that liquid methane rains lash Saturn’s largest moon, a freezing, primitive but active world of ridges, peaks, river beds and deserts scoured by the same forces of erosion as Earth, scientists said Friday.
Methane is a highly flammable gas on Earth, but on Titan, it is liquid because of the intense pressure and cold.
“There is liquid that is flowing on the surface of Titan. It is not water — it is much too cold — it’s liquid methane,

Love - From a Shorter Perspective
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of 4- to 8-year-olds, What does love mean? The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think:
When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and
paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time,
even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love
Rebecca- age 8
When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different.
You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.
Billy - age 4
Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving
cologne and they go out and smell each other
Karl - age 5
Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your
French fries without making them give you any of theirs
Chrissy -age 6
Love is what makes you smile when you're tired
Terri - age 4
Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes
a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK
Danny - age 7
Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired
of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more. My Mommy and Daddy
are like that. They look gross when they kiss
Emily - age 8
Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop
opening presents and listen
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a
friend who you hate
Nikka - age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)
Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears
it everyday
Noelle - age 7
Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are
still friends even after they know each other so well
Tommy - age 6
During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I
looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He
was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore
Cindy - age 8
My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone
else kissing me to sleep at night
Clare - age 6
Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of
chicken
Elaine-age 5
Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still
says he is handsomer than Robert Redford
Chris - age 7
Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day
Mary Ann - age 4
I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her
old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones
Lauren - age 4
When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you
Karen - age 7
Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't
think it's gross
Mark - age 6
You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it.
But if you mean ;it, you should say it a lot. People forget;
Jessica - age 8
And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked
about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was
an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the
man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his
lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what he had said to the
neighbor, the little boy said, Nothing, I just helped him cry;

This is not the America I was raised to believe in
iWon News: "Academic freedom has never completely protected professors who make unpopular statements. One was fired in 1960 for suggesting that premarital sex among students could be a good thing. Three decades later, a department chair was demoted for saying a Jewish conspiracy denigrated blacks in the movies.
Now experts say the Sept. 11 attacks have put new fire in the battle over just where academic freedom ends and misconduct - or even treason - begins."
They miss the point alot lately that we are allowed free speech, we are allowed personal views and while the essay may not have been politically correct there is some definate truth in it and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves.

Welcome Teresa!
I've been sorting paperwork for two days and my head is fuzzy but will say welcome. It's always nice to have new on (or over)-the-edge contributors!
State Seeks to End 'Power Hour' Drinking
iWon News: "Lawmakers in North Dakota, alarmed by at least one death linked to the practice, are moving to close bars to newly legal drinkers who try to down 21 shots in the first hour after they turn 21.
Under legislation working its way through the state Legislature, people turning 21 would not be able to buy a drink in the state until at least 8 a.m. on their birthdays.
That would end the tradition of 'power hour' drinking under which some of those turning 21 hit a bar at midnight on their birthdays and try to down 21 shots before the bar closes an hour later. The practice is blamed for the death of a man last year.
Democratic State Sen. Joel Heitkamp told Reuters on Thursday: 'It's not the norm, but it is happening in North Dakota. What we have, so to speak, is people who turn 21 at midnight and have one hour in their eyes to accomplish a whole day's work. The sad thing is they don't have friends covering their back.'
I don't think they should make this illegal. I think this is exactly what Darwin was talking about because anyone who dies doing this deserves to and we should be grateful they are not breeding

Oh why am I not surprised
CBS News | FAA Had Pre-9/11 Qaeda Warnings | February 11, 200503:10:21: "The report by the Sept. 11 commission detailed 52 such warnings given to FAA leaders from April to Sept. 10, 2001, about the radical Islamic terrorist group and its leader, Osama bin Laden. CBS News Correspondent Bob Orr reports that the heavily redacted report has been held by the Bush Administration since August. "
All those stupid people who voted for Bush just keep getting smacked in the head for with something new that he lied about or withheld every single day. I would laugh if it was my country that was also at stake. Next time people watch all the news don't just go for feel good. Bush is closer to the Hitler than he is to any God

West Hollywood May Ban Cosmetic Surgery for Pets
iWon News: "The mayor of West Hollywood -- a liberal, pet-embracing city adjacent to Los Angeles that two years ago brought America a ban on the declawing of cats -- has proposed a new ordinance making 'tail-docking' and 'ear-cropping' illegal."
Hurray for Hollywood, I have always thought these surgeries are cruel and no I don't care how much you spent or wha tthe damn dog is supposed to look like. If god had wanted tail and ears cropped and claws pulled he would have made them that way.

How To Blog - Very Good Piece
tonypierce.com busblog: "how to blog by tony pierce, 110
1. write every day.
2. if you think youre a good writer, write twice a day.
3. dont be afraid to do anything. infact if youre afraid of something, do it. then do it again. and again.
4. cuss like a sailor.
5. dont tell your mom, your work, your friends, the people you want to date, or the people you want to work for about your blog. if they find out and you'd rather they didnt read it, ask them nicely to grant you your privacy."
I've been so motivated lately, studio is all clean, taxes caught up, I'm finishing this black n white tile pony I started months ago and even the house isn't too awfully messy. Not sure what it is, probably just some cycle thing, but I'm trying to take advantage of it. The puppy's name is Ozzy, and he's doing fine, typical pain in the butt, but it's okay. Steffin seems to be feeling better lately, although he still complains about pain, we saw someone today who works with a lot of brain aneurysm patients and she said the difference from six months (now) to a year after surgery is quite noticeable, so that was good news. If he is doing this well now, he ought to be hunky dory in another six months!
I want to start a Desert Dragon Pottery blog but I'm not sure how I should set it up, Brandy, should I use their automatic page setup or send it to my own site? I have plenty of space on my fastq/amug site to use a page there....
Just in case you have an overwhelming urge to eat chemicals
I don't understand what everybody has against real sugar. A cake made with fake sugar may have a couple of fewer calories but it can't possibly be healthier eating chlorine.
iWon News: "We feel the public needs to be aware that Splenda is an artificial chemical sweetener. Splenda is created with chlorine, and the final product does not have sugar in it,' he said.
Splenda's Web Site (www.splenda.com) says the product is made 'through a patented process that starts with sugar and converts it to a no calorie, noncarbohydrate sweetener. The process selectively replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms.'"
