A vacation In Galveston Texas & Oh There you are Lydia

Okay I admit I have been bad bad bad, but then so has everybody else but Mishy. Lydia are you still alive. Did Kelly Read the blog and bar you from the computer? Was hoping we would hear from you more often, not less after you quit the evil job. We miss you and all your stories. Of course it took me so long to finish this blog that Lydia was found and other than the permanent scarring left by her child seems to be alive and well.

I have been bad because I have been busy busy busy, Lots of new and exciting things happening in my life. We are opening another U-Stor here in Corpus this will be number three. For all of you looking for Storage in Corpus we have some great deals for you. For our Grand Opening we are offering 15.00 for the 1st month on all Unit sizes at all three locations. The new one is located at 6001 McArdle. We will also be having a huge Grand Opening sometime in April, with ribbon cutting contest and more. Stay tuned for details. Usually this would mean little to me since I run one of my own but This month I was also given a promotion making me Area Manager so now everything is my problem which is kinda cool. Not that I needed more to do but you know me a sucker for punishment and a control freak besides. The other news is that April will be taking over the new store with Michael I am very excited for them. NOw they get to stay home with baby and April will have more time to study for college since she will have access to her computer all day instead of putting in 40 hours somewhere else. I have to admit as companies go to work for U-Stor is one of the best and I am unbelievably happy at the moment. There are definately worse things to be. Plus they gave us new computers and software which will make life much easier and faster when dealing with the paperwork involved.

Update Store has opened send all your friends. both the McArdle Store and the staples location are doing $15.00 move ins for any size. Get your storage now. Reclaim those closets and recover lost space.

Last week (3 weeks ago now)they finally forced me to take a vacation, Since I had April and Michael here to run the store once they were done training. It was hard leaving after a year and 1/2 I have become very attached to my store. Yes its the obsessive control thing but I like it. However after getting four hours away the store started slipping from my mind and once I hit the Private Jacuzzi. SO I had a great time which is what this blog is actually all about. So Enough with work lets get on with the vacation.

After a few bank snafus, mainly Paypals incredibly long time in posting bank transfer the money was in place and I was set to travel. We loaded up the truck and headed off confidant that it would run since it just had a new fuel pump put in almost a year to the day from the last time I had it replaced.

We decided to go the shore route and drive up the coast to view the pretty scenery. Unfortunately it was raining by the time we were 30 miles from town and by the time we were 40 it was pouring. Trapped behind people who couldn't drive in the rain, (This includes most everybody in S. Texas) we diced when the ocean starting lapping over the bridges we were driving on that it was probably the better part valor to go West. So we drove to the real Highway and continued on. The road was empty and the trip was fine until we reached Edna where some unfortunate soul flipped their car on the highway into oncoming traffic which caused a semi to drive off the road and end up in the ditch miraculously still standing though only barely. After leaving the traffic jam we were once again traveling happily drinking coffee and talking about things besides work (A novel concept at times) HIt the outskirts of HOuston which I have never seen and LEs hadn't seen in 30 years apparently there has been some building going on but then you don't get to be the 4th largest city by standing still. We avoided HOuston all together and turned back on to the smaller highway to get to Galveston. Everything was going great until we reached the bridge to to croos over to the island, as we were pulling on to 45 at the last entrance to the island the truck started coughing and decided to run out of gas. According to the guage we still had 1/4 of a tank but apparently not. We managed to avoid the entrance ramp and through repeated limping and dying managed to get to the turn around and headed back to the gas stations. We didn't make it. Thank God for AllState Motor Club, After only 45 minutes A friendly man from Texas City arrived with gas. Back on our way with a new and fuller tank of gas we finally made it over the bridge and too Galveston. Only 2 hours later than our planned arrival time.

For Lodging we chose

Places we visited and ate.

The Best place we went was the Texas Seaport Museum

Our pics of The Elissa

didn't make it to the Railroad Museum or the peanut butter factory or Moodys Garden or the Bishops Palace which just means I will have to go back again

We did spend one afternoon at The Johnson Space Center in Nasa, Texas. I sat in the same chairs as the yupitty ups when those fateful words "Houston I have a problem" were spoken unfortunately that was the highlight of visiting NASA. This was a place I wanted to visit so badly and was so dissapointed. The main themepark type center they have built for kids is great if you are 2-12 years. Wasn't impressed with anything they offered for the grown up. With all the new security cautions in plaace they don't let you see much. Very sad and yet another way the terrorists have won.

I was going to do more with restaurant reviews etc.. nbut it has now been too long and I don't remember all those cute things I was going to say. Oh Well suffice it to say a good time was had by all.

New toy for the terminally sleepy

iWon News: "LONDON (Reuters) - Can't get out of bed in the morning?

Scientists at MIT's Media Lab in the United States have invented an alarm clock called Clocky to make even the doziest sleepers, who repeatedly hit the snooze button, leap out of bed.

After the snooze button is pressed, the clock, which is equipped with a set of wheels, rolls off the table to another part of the room.

'When the alarm sounds again, simply finding Clocky ought to be strenuous enough to prevent even the doziest owner from going back to sleep,' New Scientist magazine said Tuesday."

Prankster Smuggles Art Into Top Museums

iWon News: "NEW YORK (Reuters) - Many a visitor to New York's Museum of Modern Art has probably thought, 'I could do that.'

A British graffiti artist who goes by the name 'Banksy' went one step further, by smuggling in his own picture of a soup can and hanging it on a wall, where it stayed for more than three days earlier this month before anybody noticed.

The prank was part of a coordinated plan to infiltrate four of New York's top museums on a single day.

The largest piece, which he smuggled into the Brooklyn Museum, was a 2 foot by 1.5 foot (61cm by 46 cm) oil painting of a colonial-era admiral, to which the artist had added a can of spray paint in his hand and anti-war graffiti in the background.

The other two targets were the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural History, where he hung a glass-encased beetle with fighter jet wings and missiles attached to its body -- another comment on war, Banksy told Reuters on Thursday."

I want to see a picture of Mishy's chair.

I won the mystery art! I probably shouldn't be excited about this. I am so easily amused. Kelly is on a conference call with our next get rich quick scheme. This time it is internett marketing. Some body should inform him that he doesn't even have a product. There are so many better things that we could spend our money on. Helping the poor. Buying mystery art. Anything but giving it to con artists!

Mishy's chair downtown

Got a fun call today, from a writer for Phoenix Magazine. She is doing a piece on something about 'places to sit' ...I forget her exact wording of her theme, but my chair is one of the pieces she is talking about, so she wanted to get some more information. It will be in the June issue of Phoenix Magazine, in the "Phoenix Files" section. I better get down there and repair it...

MYSTERY MAN?

Okay people you can laugh if you wish. I am bidding on a mystery box on E-bay. No joke. Actually I am bidding on a mystery piece of art. I say that at the risk of one of our millions of devoted blog readers bidding against me. Maybe it's tasteful nude photo's. A sculpture? Smeared poop on canvas, the suspense is killing me. If I win, which I probably won't with my pessimistic attitude and cheapskate bidding I will post a picture of the grand masterpiece so you can all ooh and ahh. I don't know if the art will be that great as the person could not spell artist right. I'm not that great a speller either and I have so many hidden talents so it could be a real gem or NOT. No pearls of wisdom are going to fall out of my head today or maybe even any time soon. I'm working on cultivating my really shallow side. Kelly is way too serious and I think that it is having an effect on me.

Lydia played by Salma Hayek

I braved a storm to go to the book store by myself last night. I drank a large french vanilla coffee, even though we have plenty of wonderful coffee at home. The little blonde girl that made my caffeinated beverage was incredibly cheerful and perky and I had to restrain myself from asking her what the hell she was taking. I want some of that stuff. She complimented my see through mesh shirt that I just won't give up even though what there is to see through to isn't that grand anymore. She totally earned her dollar tip. Been trying to leave the house for hours now. Finally just decided to blog. I'm a heathen I didn't go to church today. I'm nursing Ranger on the sly. Kelly insists that Ranger only nurse at night now. He is under the mistaken impression that I am trying to wean him. The funky Aids benefit sounds like a fun time for a good cause. If I get an attack of creativity I will donate some of my beaded artistry for the silent auction. Unfortunately my creative attacks are often thwarted by my mothering duties. I need to find something that requires no concentration what so ever. Don't know what that would be. Cristal can talk on the phone, cook, paint and take care of three children at the same time. God I love that woman.

Artwerks Red Ribbon Weekend April 7th, 8th and 10th

Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation And ARTWERKS Gallery & Studios To Partner For "Red Ribbon Weekend", Featuring Three Days Of Fundraising Events and HIV/AIDS Outreach

Corpus Christi, TX -- March 15, 2005 -- Since it's inception in 1986, the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation (CBAF) has been committed to preventing the spread of HIV in our community and to improving the quality of life for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Unfortunately, while the number of cases continues to climb, the funding desperately needed to continue services - including free and confidential testing, educational outreach, prevention programs and medical assisstance - continues to dwindle due to massive federal and state funding cuts. With over 2,000 reported cases in the twelve counties serviced by CBAF and an increase in the number of young minorities contracting HIV, the need for funding has reached critical proportions. In an effort to boost revenue, CBAF and Artwerks Gallery & Studios will host "Red Ribbon Weekend", a Spring-themed gala weekend featuring three fundraising events to be held April 7, 8 & 10.

"Red Ribbon Weekend" will kick-off on Thursday, April 7 with "The Collector's Tour", a rare opportunity to tour Charles Kaffie's prestigious private art collection and his stately Ocean Drive home. Guests will be treated to a wine and champagne tasting with a noted local wine steward, mouthwatering hors d'ouevres and classical live music, all while marveling at this eclectic collection of modern and traditional art in one of the most beautiful oceanfront settings in the city. 6pm - 9pm. Tickets for this event are $100 and are very limited. To purchase tickets, or for more information, contact Jeffrey Linthicum at ARTWERKS Gallery (4333 South Alameda - 361.980.9375).

Friday, April 8, ARTWERKS Gallery & Studios will host "The Greenhouse Effect", a funky and fun art opening featuring Spring and flower-themed works by local artists, a silent auction, live entertainment, food and beverages, door prizes and surprise performances throughout the evening. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are just $25 and will be available for purchase at ARTWERKS Gallery & Studios (4333 South Alameda), the Coastal Bend AIDS Foundation offices (400 Mann Street) and Doohicki's Salon (1010 Santa Fe in Gaslight Square). Anyone wishing to donate to the silent auction and any artists who would like to submit pieces for the show should contact Adam Rios at CBAF (361.814.2001) or Jeffrey Linthicum at ARTWERKS Gallery (361.980.9375).

Have a passion for fashion? Our "Red Ribbon Weekend" finale' event, "The Garden Party", Sunday, April 10th, will whet your appetite for head-turning style. ARTWERKS Gallery & Studios will host this unconventional "Project Runway"-esque fashion show where local businesses and organizations will get creative and compete for top honors. Spring and flower-themed creations by local fashion boutiques, students, salons and seamstresses will take a trip down the catwalk and be judged by the audience. Guests, who are encouraged to sport garden party attire, will enjoy fine tea, delicate finger sandwiches and more. 3pm - 5pm. Tickets are $30 and are very limited. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact Jeffrey Linthicum at ARTWERKS Gallery (4333 South Alameda - 361.980.9375)

No Really Stupid Things don't happen just because people are afraid, Ya Right

iWon News

In a made for TV movie about your life, who would you want to play you?

Hello all! I've spent the last six weeks or so celebrating my unemployment and doing all things domestic. Beating children, potty training children, spending Kelly's money on eBay. Yesterday Cristal and I walked from her pretty brick house to the a nearby park. It was a monumental excursion for us mommies. The highlights of the outing included the big pink ball getting blown by the wind into the duck pond and all of the children screaming,"Oh no... Not the ball, my ball!" Tears were shed but the ball was retrieved and had about a pound of muck and duck crap on it. While Cristal was extracting the ball from the scummy moat a goose mistook Lindseys strawberry shortcake hat for a yummy and bit her sweet little hand trying to take it from her. Lindsey would not let go of the hat though. Cristal looked at me and asked what she should do with the ball. I told her to rub it on the grass. I did not think that this would really do an efficient job of poo removal but Cristal looked hilarious rubbing that giant ball on the grass trying not to get it all over her. Really you just had to be there for that one. Finally Cristal busted out the baby wipes and after all that effort no one even played with the damn ball. We just hauled it around. Cristal and I took turns swinging the wee ones and then Cristal nursed Ethan while everyone played on the slide. Pure excitement, Ranger really dug it. He can climb like a monkey! Each time he got to the top of the slide, I would chant Go Rangy go! Then I had to do the same chat for all the other kids. After a while I felt as if I was going to loose my voice. Ranger skin was getting a bit pink in spite of the slathering of sunscreen so I announced that the party was over. Some where in the world an albino woman is missing her child, I'm sure of it. Of course we actually left the park about twenty minutes after the announcement. While we were walking Cristal's casa I began wishing that we had driven to the park. It is pretty hard to push a stroller with an almost four year old hanging on it and trying to carry a humongous pink ball at the same time. When we got back to Cristal's lil Kel whacked me in the face with one of Cristals decorative items, some sharp metal bird house thing. I may be scarred for life. I asked why he did it and he said because Cristal made mommy a cool Winnie the pooh out fit and he wanted one too. Cristal gave me a band aid and lil Kel later apologized and kissed my boo boo. This would be after daddy gave him a spanking. Daddy comes home around six o'clock each evening now and still has every other week off. Which is way cool with me. I'm not even sick of him yet. We went out to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant and then went and got frozen yogurt. I'm feeling pretty well adjusted at the moment, I've even picked up a new hobby. Inspired by a beaded bracelet made by Cristal's sister I am now making beaded jewelry. I even made Cristal a bracelet with polymer beads made with my own hands. I thought it came out kind of homespun but Cristal liked it. After I am finished with this blog my big adventure for the day will be to Sun Harvest to buy chicken breasts so I can try Mishy's recipe. It sounds uncomplicated enough for me.
Mish, I don't know if the parenting class that you took was the same one mandated by the court that I took here, but I too found it incredibly helpful. I wish that my ex would have gotten something out of it as well. I think that had I not taken that class I might have put some of my own interests and agenda's before my children feelings. It is so tempting to say things(very true things) about their father, especially when he does what he can to marr my image in their eyes but, I do not. My children are pretty quick, I feel that they will ultimately see things the way that they are.

The conference call...

...turned out to be nothing more than clarification of a few items in the paperwork that could be misunderstood or were hazy. Spent some time talking to my attorney and his wife, a mortgage officer about my options, or lack thereof, and what I can do about it. The judge said he would sign off and file the decree today, so I am officially divorced, as of today. Back to Katz, will phase away from Lowe.

All I can say it what are you suppossed Christians afraid of?

iWon News: "WASHINGTON (AP) - Working against the clock, House lawmakers tried to prevent doctors in Florida from removing the feeding tube Friday from a severely brain-damaged woman.

In a two-pronged approach, a House committee was issuing congressional subpoenas to stop doctors from disconnecting the tube, while an attorney for the parents of the woman, Terri Schiavo, said he would ask a federal judge in Tampa to block the removal and review the actions of state courts."

I don't understand this at all. The woman has no brain function, no life. I would not want to live this way, so let me makes this a completely public announcement, not that my parents would ever be so cruel or selfish to keep me alive this way. Don't do this to me. I do not want to be a vegetable. I think people become vegetables after their souls have already moved on. Thats why they don't wake up you stupid selfish people who call yourself Christians and support keeping this woman alive.

If you believe in God and heaven can't you understand that being in heaven has got to be better than where this woman has lived for the last decade.

I know her parents are in pain but for God's sake let go and Let God as the saying goes. I commend her husband for diligently seeking her release in the face of national insanity.

And as for Congress and the various Shrubs involved, you have no right to be involved in our lives much less our deaths. To prolong the suffering and cost and lack of closure for the family is incredibly cruel so get the hell out of our lives and our deaths.

God has better plans for this woman than a feeding tube. Let this woman go.

There are so many things that we could spend the money on besides Shrubs Lies

iWon News: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush said on Wednesday the U.S. government's practice of sending packaged news stories to local television stations was legal and he had no plans to stop it.

His defense of the packages, which are designed to look like television news segments, came after they were deemed a form of covert propaganda by the Government Accountability Office watchdog agency."

Congress Mulls Cutting Food Aid to Poor

iWon News: "WASHINGTON (AP) - Cuts in food programs for the poor are getting support in Congress as an alternative to President Bush's idea of slicing billions of dollars from the payments that go to large farm operations.

Senior Republicans in both the House and Senate are open to small reductions in farm subsidies, but they adamantly oppose the deep cuts sought by Bush to hold down future federal deficits.

The president wants to lower the maximum subsidies that can be collected each year by any one farm operation from $360,000 to $250,000. He also asked Congress to cut by 5 percent all farm payments, and he wants to close loopholes that enable some growers to annually collect millions of dollars in subsidies.

Instead, Republican committee chairmen are looking to carve savings from nutrition and land conservation programs that are also run by the Agriculture Department. The government is projected to spend $52 billion this year on nutrition programs like food stamps, school lunches and special aid to low-income pregnant women and children. Farm subsidies will total less than half that, $24 billion."

Lets look at the choices here. We can decide that some people that the Government is already paying 360,000 a year will only get 250,000 a year on top of what they earn. Or we can decide to take away food from those people already earning less than 12,000 a year. And to think all you poor slobs that voted for Republicans because of their Morals. Infortunately these morals are not the type that will feed your children. He only feeds the childrens of the rich, after all if the poor people die they won't be around to suck up the money anymore and then the rich can have it all.

I am not a big fan of welfare or farm subsidies. Lived in OK, KS area for a decade and most of those farmers spend the vast majority of their time sitting on their asses drinking coffee at the local mini mart. And from the size of those bellys they ain't hurting for beer or food. This is not to say they don't work hard during the season but it is certainly not the same soul killing work it 50-100 years ago. The combines and enclosed tractors have ac/heat and cd players. And then there is the conservation property. The government pays them not to grow anything and the farmer turns around and sometimes charges up to 1500 a week for hunters to use this conservation area as a protected hunting ground. Trust me the farmers have a lot of free time.

On the other side of the coin the people who qualify for food stamps are making less than 12,0000 a year usually have the poorest housing choices that they can afford and everyone from their landlords to the utilities and car insurance people take advantage of their lack of money and credit. This just sucks. I am a registered republican but I must say I am ashamed of what they have turned the party into.

next Friday

The judge's teleconference isn't until *next* Friday, which is one of the annoying things about it, so I don't know yet. I considered making Gary sweat by replying to his email that I think the judge is wanting to award me some attorney fees....but, that would probably come back to me later...and I'm not that mean. Besides...I can always hope!

I took the parenting information class last night, that is court mandated and supposed to be attended within 45 days of being served (cough)...I blew it off (for 20 months), as it always happens when I am either teaching or spending time with my kids, but, had to do it to make sure the judge doesn't slap my hands. It was actually very interesting and helpful, and worthwhile, despite the (ouch) $40 bite. Then, today, I happened to be downtown so I filed the paperwork myself, to save the attorney's fees for that. I also looked into refinancing my house, and the guy is talking about consolidating my credit card debt, possibly, into the refi, thereby avoiding bankruptcy...but, still not sure what my options and best choices are, more research to do on that. I feel so pro-active.

Was downtown taking Steffin to a followup neuro-psychological assessment. Very interesting results. The doc said that his ability to express himself, gives people the wrong impression that he is doing better than he actually is, which is exactly what he's been telling me. He has some delays in thinking skills, dexterity, and visual/spatial awareness. This is normal and he is healing wonderfully, but it is a slow process, and the bottom line is, she wouldn't recommend him returning to work or driving yet, which is exactly how he feels about it, not that he doesn't *want* to, but he knows he's not ready. She is giving him some coping skills to deal with the emotional and mental aspects of all this, the depression and anxiety about getting back to health, and zoloft (!) It was nice to have some vindication for him, about how he feels, and how he is doing. She had good ideas on how to help him with meds and some of his other stuff.

I am ready to buy my new computer

And I am going to let everyone help me decide what to buy.
I have most of the pieces already and I don't have a lot of money left after my vacation (More on That Later), I still need a case and a motherboard and chip. I am taking votes on which case I should buy and I have narrowed it down to a few choices.

I must vent some

Got a call from my attorney, apparently the judge is calling for a teleconference, because he has some 'questions about something on the paperwork', my attorney was not sure what. So...Friday March 18, in the morning, we are meeting via phone, to answer his queries. This causes me plenty of angst, I am SO READY to be done...and then...I get an email from Gary, asking if *I* know why the judge is calling for this teleconference. Now... what is up with him asking ME? Does he think I have some in, or does his attorney just suck? At any rate, I need a good strong drink!!!!

If it looks like a duck and walk like a duck then it probably is a Nazi Republican

iWon News: "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senator's likening of Republican strategy on blocked judicial nominees to Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany drew condemnation on Wednesday from top Republicans and the Anti-Defamation League.

Sen. Robert Byrd on Tuesday compared Republican threats to change Senate rules to outlaw procedural hurdles that have blocked 10 of President Bush's judicial candidates to Hitler jamming legislation through the German Reichstag.

'Hitler never abandoned the cloak of legality; he recognized the enormous psychological value of having the law on his side,' the Democrat from West Virginia said. 'Instead, he turned the law inside out and made illegality legal.'

Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, a member of the Republican leadership, said in a statement, 'Senator Byrd's inappropriate remarks comparing his Republican colleagues with Nazis are inexcusable.'

ADL Director Abraham Foxman said: 'It is hideous, outrageous and offensive for Senator Byrd to suggest that the Republican Party's tactics could in any way resemble those of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.'

Republican Party Chairman Ken Mehlman said, 'Senator Byrd's invocation of Hitler's Germany ... is reprehensible and beyond the pale.'"
